Around the world, there are 250 million children who never manage to learn how to read and write - 120 million of them don't even get the chance to try as they are denied the chance to go to school. That's not acceptable. We at the Luminos Fund are doing something about it – and we need your help. Our one-room schoolhouses are learning communities, and they need communities of dedicated partners who believe in them and want to help them learn. We're inviting you to join our 10 for Hope Partnership – you and nine other friends (that's the 10) giving these children a second chance at education.
We are asking a few of our key partners to rally their friends, family, and networks to support our work. By becoming a Schoolhouse fundraiser for the Luminos Fund, you'll be part of a movement to help 10,000 out-of-school children in Ethiopia and Liberia get an education - and you'll help your friends feel good about doing good.Starting a fundraiser is easy to do, and it's fun! We'll give you all the tools you'll need to make a difference. Once your campaign is fully subscribed (at least 10 people contributing $25 per month), you'll receive updates about the children's progress in the Luminos accelerated learning program. With your help we can end education exclusion and unlock the light within every child for a better tomorrow.
What is Accelerated Learning?
When children miss out on learning because of poverty, conflict, or discrimination, our programs give them a second chance to learn. To help them catch up, children get three years worth of schooling in just 10 months. Facilitators dedicated to their students' success provide a fun, intensive, and deep-learning environment. At the end of 10 months, children are functionally literate and can join the local school with peers their own age.
How old are the children?
The children in our programs are typically between 8 and 14 years old. They re-enter school at the fourth grade level when they leave our program.
Where in Africa?
Children are out-of-school across the continent, but you can currently start a 10 for Hope Partnership for children in Ethiopia and Liberia. We hope to add new countries in Africa soon.
